- The cobblestone technique at its most assured: a field of multistone set close as river rock across a sterling cuff, signed with the CR mark. Rarely seen at this density of color, and in excellent condition.
On this piece
Forty-nine grams of sterling, paved edge to edge in stone. This cobblestone cuff comes from the Navajo artisan who signs simply “CR,” and it’s a masterclass in the form — a dense mosaic of multicolored stones fitted across the crown of a heavy silver band, rarely seen at this level of execution. The cobblestone style rewards exactly this: the more varied the color and the tighter the fit, the more the whole surface comes alive, like river stones seen through clear water. It is signed sterling with CR’s distinctive mark, in excellent condition, a size 6.5. There’s real weight here — you feel it settle on the wrist — which is part of the pleasure of authentic Navajo silverwork; these were never made thin or timid. A one-of-a-kind piece by a named hand, in the tradition that made the Southwest famous for silver.
