On this piece
Most jade jewelry gives you one green; this Ming’s brooch gives you a whole palette. Vintage Ming’s of Honolulu, solid 14K yellow gold, it arranges multi-colored jade with cultured pearl into a floral spray — the house’s beloved botanical style, here showing off the range of natural jade color that made fine examples so collectible. Ming’s understood jade the way a painter understands pigment: the subtle shifts from green to lavender to white weren’t flaws to hide but the whole point, and a multi-colored piece like this is among the more desirable the house made. At 2.5 inches across, it has real presence on a lapel or a coat, and at over 11 grams of solid gold it has the heft to match. Signed Ming’s and 14K on the reverse, in excellent condition. A blooming garden in gold and stone, from Hawaii’s finest jeweler.
