Apollo Speaks

On this piece

Bamboo is one of Ming’s most beloved motifs — a symbol of resilience and grace across Asia, bending but never breaking — and these clip earrings render it in the house’s signature materials. Vintage Ming’s of Honolulu, solid 14K yellow gold, each earring pairs a domed cultured pearl with carved jade in a bamboo-and-floral design, that unmistakable Hawaiian-Asian aesthetic Ming’s made world-famous. The domed pearl was a Ming’s hallmark, chosen and set for its soft luster against the cool green of the jade and the warm gold. They’re signed on the reverse with the Ming’s name and 14K in two places — the double-signing collectors look for — and weigh a solid 10.58 grams for the pair, in excellent condition. Ming’s closed in 1999, and its pieces have only grown more sought-after since. A pair of small gardens, worn at the ear, from the house that defined Hawaiian fine jewelry.
