On this piece
Amedeo Scognamiglio comes from a family that has carved cameos in Torre del Greco, Italy for five generations — and he’s the one who made them cool again, trading roses and profiles for skulls. These are his iconic skull cuff links: sardonyx shell cameos, hand-carved to the highest grade, each memento-mori skull ringed by a halo of black crystals, set in black-rhodium sterling. The cameo is one of the oldest decorative arts there is, and what Amedeo does is keep the centuries-old technique — the same layered shell, the same carver’s patience — while pointing it at something modern and a little wicked. New and unworn, signed Amedeo on the reverse, with an original retail of $1,500. For the man who has good suits and wants a detail that rewards a second look, there’s nothing else quite like them: old-world carving, new-world attitude, at the wrist.
