On this piece
When Howard Carter first put a candle to the dark of Tutankhamun’s tomb, Lord Carnarvon asked whether he could see anything. “Yes,” Carter said. “Wonderful things.” Half a century later the boy king’s treasures toured the world, and Trifari answered the fever with enamel and gold — none rarer than this. A tulip-collar necklace and its matching dangle earrings, worked in the warm, saturated Egyptian-revival enamels collectors prize above almost all of Trifari’s mid-century output, both pieces signed on the reverse with the Crown Trifari mark. It is a complete set, in excellent condition, and complete Trifari sets of this caliber almost never surface intact. More could be said about the design, the color, the drama of it around the throat — but Carter got there first, and better. Wonderful things.
