On this piece
Mazer was one of the master design houses of its era, and this brooch is the reason people say so: a cactus flower in a basket, built with real dimension, in citrine amber and emerald green rhinestone on a gold-plated finish. It reads as modern design rather than period decoration, which is precisely what separated Mazer from most of its contemporaries. At some point in its life an owner had it professionally converted from a dress clip to a brooch pin, a common and well-executed alteration that we would rather you knew about than discovered. It is signed on the reverse with the Mazer mark and the pin setter's mark of 72, and measures 1 3/8 inches wide by 2 inches tall. Excellent vintage condition.
