On this piece
The dress clip that started a craze, in Trifari’s hands. This 1930s Alfred Philippe design is a Fruit Salad floral spray — the style Cartier borrowed from India’s Mughal carvers and the whole world then wanted — rendered in the most desirable tricolor molded glass: ruby red, sapphire blue, and emerald green, finished with crystal chatons across a cool silver-rhodium plate. The center is the knockout: four ruby-red glass stones cradling a small green cabochon, crystal accents lifting the whole arrangement. Trifari’s imported molded glass is the reason these read as real carved gems rather than paste; the color runs saturated straight through, not painted on. Fruit Salad pieces are among the most collectible Trifari ever made, and a 1930s dress clip in this condition is a genuine find. A jewel from the golden age, at the neckline, exactly as it was worn ninety years ago.
